reposting this just incase you missed it… I’m hoping to get lots and lots and lots of dragonfly wings over this weekend. If you have some and are waiting for the weekend, let me know so I can expect you.

It’s dragonfly season again. I love it. It means that summer is actually here. It’s also the time for the St. John’s Folk Festival. . It’s an awesome weekend full of excellent people, music, food, workshops, and of course – craft.

I’m going to try something new this year. I am going to have a contest. A chance to take part in my making process and as a result, a chance to win a one of a kind necklace.

How? You ask. Here’s how. I am putting out an all call for you to help me collect dragonfly wings so I can turn them into jewellery for the Christmas season. These should come from the dragonflies that have already died.

I have received my very first entry for the dragonfly wing contest ( see previous post for details on how to win ). My Uncle Ches dropped off the very first set of wings. when I asked this swarthy newfoundland man who’s name I should put on the entry, he thumped his chest and said “mine, I’m the one who found it!”. I do love my family. since then I have recieved several more sets from other people, all who’s names will go in the hat ( I’ll have to get a fancy hat) to win the dragonfly necklace I have made.

remember you can drop them off to me in person at the folk festival i. St. John’s, or mail them to me if you’re able to go to the festival. Sunday is the last day for submissions. I will draw the week after the festival to let any snail mail get to me in time.

With each set of wings I receive from you, I will put your name in the hat to win the necklace pictured…(to be completed tomorrow)

Along with the set of wings I will need four bits of data. 1.) the name of the collector. 2) where the set of wings was collected. 3.) when the set of wings was collected. 4.) Your email, as that is how I will be contacting all contest players to announce the winner.

I will be collecting wings at the folk festival, from Aug. 3-5. I can be contacted via email : rosalindfrd(at)gmail(dot)com if you would like to take part but are unable to make it to the St. John’s folk fest. We’ll sort something out.

I’m really quite excited about this. The dragonfly wings are a limited, seasonal material. I quite like how they look in copper however I am unable to collect enough by myself. I’m also excited to put up for sale in Dec. the jewellery that comes from this contest. I think It’ll be neat to be able to see or own the jewellery you or a friend help make.

A friend gave us garlic skapes yesterday. Today I hoofed myself over the hill to the bonavista social club for lunch fixins. Got myself a still warm loaf of sourdough and back home I came.
Grilled cheese with sourdough bread made this morning and fresh garlic skapes is an excellent lunch- especially when served with home made tomatoe soup with garlic skapes in.

This nom-a-licious meal was then followed by dreaded paperwork. It has come time to do the things I have been both avoiding and procrastinating. These are very important grant and funding necessary applications and marketing plans. I find this sort of work intimidating – even though it always works out fine in the end. I suspect it will take the rest of my day to complete the two page market plan and then the 14 ( yup you read correctly fourteen full pages) long jury application so I will be able to sell my new copper feather jewellery at the wholesale show in Halifax and probably St. John’s in 2013.
